CfA: Georg Zundel PhD Research Grant for Social Sciences 2009

'Berghof Conflict Research' (BCR) is offering opportunities for supervised PhD social science research starting in 2009, on topics related to BCR\'s programme areas. Full two year grants are available. Research and thesis should be conducted and written in English.
BCR, the research centre of the Berghof Foundation for Conflict Studies, was founded in Berlin in 1993. It is one of Europe\'s leading institutions conducting action research in the fields of conflict transformation and peacebuilding.
'The Georg Zundel PhD Research Grant' is available to students from any country who:

'The Georg Zundel PhD Research Grant' is available to students from any country who:
- Have an excellent university or university college degree, and are eligible for PhD studies in Europe
- Have extensive academic knowledge or practical experience in themes and areas of conflict transformation and peacebuilding
- Show excellent command of written English
- Submit a proposal for an original research project connected to one of BCR\'s three programme areas:
a) Dealing with the past, peacebuilding and reconciliation in post-conflict societies
b) The transition of non-state armed groups to political actors
c) The interaction of state and non-state actors in conflict transformation processes
- Are highly motivated to engage actively in the BCR research team.
BCR offers:
- Financial support. 'The Georg Zundel PhD Research Grant' includes EUR 1,000 per month, plus health insurance and support for travel and research costs
- Professional supervision (primary or secondary) by the BCR director
- An individual workstation, including free access to BCR research resources
- Active engagement with the BCR team and activities
