Climate and peace in the Middle East: How can climate action support peacebuilding objectives?

Engage with leading experts as they share their perspectives on the parameters for climate mitigation and adaptation policies that simultaneously contribute to peace and stability. Together we will delve into the roles of various stakeholders – including governments, communities, and climate finance institutions – in promoting peace-positive climate initiatives and draw conclusions for the work of peacebuilding organisations.

At the event, Andrew Gilmour, Executive Director of the Berghof Foundation, will also discuss findings from his recent book The Burning Question. Climate and conflict – why does it matter?, including on the environmental peacebuilding dimension of water management in the Middle East. In the book, he draws on his thorough understanding of global conflicts as well as on a wealth of real-life examples from his 30 years of working with the United Nations to examines a wide range of political and practical issues and their cascading effects on human and national security.
