Women-led Organisations in Afghanistan: Where to Next?

Since August 2021, the Taliban’s rule under the self-declared Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has enforced harsh restrictions, putting the survival of women-led organisations (WLOs) at serious risk. While engaging under such conditions is fraught with danger, withdrawing support could further sideline women. Donors should move beyond short-term project funding and instead support long-term partnerships that strengthen local agency and resilience.
