International Peace Worker (m/f/d) in Sri Lanka
The Centre for Training and Networking in Nonviolent Action – KURVE Wustrow is looking for an International Peace Worker (m/f/d) for its CPS-programme “"Dealing with the Past, strengthening Human Rights and Networking for a resilient Civil Society" in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
These are your tasks
As an integrated peace worker within our partner organisation MONLAR (Movement for Land and Agricultural Reform) you will support as an Organisational Capacity Building and Training Specialist. Together with local experts, you will plan, design and implement MONLAR`s CPS project.
- You provide professional advice and strategic direction on peacebuilding, reconciliation, civil nonviolent conflict transformation, nonviolent action as well as on people mobilising and social movements. You support MONLAR to organise, coordinate and develop relevant training programs regarding these topics. Since MONLAR is working in almost all provinces in Sri Lanka, this includes frequent travels.
- You integrate yourself into the CPS team of MONLAR and, if desired, participate and advise in processes in the area of program, training and organisational development.
- In close cooperation with MONLAR, you promote and strengthen exchange and network activities with other national and international stakeholders, who focus on minority rights (for example farmers’ rights, fishers’ rights).
- You join and support the project team in the project implementation of peacebuilding activities, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
- You will ensure the proper use of funds and reporting as well as regular communication with the CPS Country Coordinator and the KURVE Wustrow main office.
Skills you have
- A relevant university degree (e.g. peace and conflict studies, social sciences, social work or environmental sciences/rights) or completed training with several years of professional experience in a field of work, which is relevant to the CPS.
- Several years of practical experience in working with NGOs, preferably in intercultural teams and/or abroad (preferably in South Asia and/or Southeast Asia)
- Relevant further trainings and experiences in the field of environmental peacebuilding, land rights, farmer`s/peasant`s rights, agriculture, social movements and/or sound knowledge about these topics.
- Well-founded competencies in methods of nonviolent action, civil nonviolent conflict transformation and dialogue facilitation
- Experiences and sensitivity in working with individuals and communities from different ethnical and religious backgrounds as well as different social norms and beliefs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with conflict, which can be used respectfully and sensitively in an intercultural context.
- The ability to self-reflect and a high degree of learning, adaptability and flexibility.
- Personal responsibility, strong planning and implementation skills, the ability to deal with complex situations and tolerance towards unclear situations. Preparedness to work independently, with less instructions, most of the times.
- Very good English language skills and willingness to learn Sinhala.

- A full-time contract in accordance with the German law for development aid workers (only for EU-citizens) or a contract in alignment with the German law for development aid workers for citizens from other countries until 01.11.2028. Please note: The conditions of the German law for development aid workers precludes the application and deployment of citizens of the deployment countries.

- An extensive preparation period in Germany, usually two to three months, starting on 01.02.2026.
